Lane Kiffin decision on LSU, Ole Miss: Live updates, news, announcements and analysis

It’s decision day for Lane Kiffin. The hottest coaching name on the market is expected to make a final call on Sunday between remaining at Ole Miss, which is on the precipice of its first College Football Playoff appearance in program history, and leaving for LSU, which is searching for a new coach after it made the decision to fire Brian Kelly in October amid a 5-3 start to the season.

Florida was once in the running for Kiffin, but it seems as if the Gators have fallen out of the race as they hunt for a Billy Napier replacement. Kiffin confirmed Friday afternoon after Ole Miss’ 38-19 win against rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl that he feels he has to decide on his future Saturday.

“I got to do some praying and figure this thing out,” Kiffin said. “I can get to that tomorrow. I live life about one day at a time. Maybe that doesn’t help you, but I’ve learned to live that way for about six years now, five years. That helps me.”

Were Kiffin to leave, he would have to do it before the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff, given the timing of college football’s December signing period and the one-time winter transfer window, which opens the first week of January.

Whatever the case, a decision looms on the horizon. While a decision was expected on Saturday, news never ended up coming to fruition. But, with Kiffin reportedly meeting with his team at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, we will have answers sooner rather than later.
